Come and See Events

With funding from Thriving Rural Communities, several of our partner churches host Come and See events, often on months containing a fifth Sunday.  These gatherings provide opportunities for rural clergy and laity to experience the lives of other Partner Churches, to hear their unique stories, and to learn from their practices in ministry in a way that might inspire them in their own ministry.

Cedar Grove UMC In August 2009, the Cedar Grove UMC congregation held a Sunday morning Open House to welcome visitors and introduce them to the entirety of the community, of which the church is but a part.  Inside the church, members staffed booths that displayed the ministries of the church.  Following a worship service and lunch, they handed out lists of community sites – among them Anathoth Community Garden, Crossroads Community Center, and the Quilters’ Guild – that welcomed visitors in the afternoon.  An ice cream social at the parsonage closed out the day, drawing more than 120 people, including many non-church members.

Solid Rock UMC
On the same day in August, the Solid Rock UMC hosted a Come and See event for members of Cool Springs UMC in the Sanford District. Solid Rock operates dozens of ministries to serve its community, including several daycares. Read more about the church in Faith & Leadership.

More Come and See events are being planned at several of our partner churches in the coming year.  To learn more about these events, please contact us.
