Join the Office of Black Church Studies on Pilgrimages of Pain & Hope. Visit important historical, political, and ecclesiastical sites in Durham, N.C. 

Hear the story of the church’s struggle in these contexts against social injustices and experience the contemporary challenge to witness to Christ’s peace and justice in a global society.

Scholarships and continuing education credit are available.

Durham Pilgrimage of Pain and Hope

Friday March 23–Sunday March 25

The pilgrimage will include a tour of historic Stagville Plantation, Hayti Community Center, and provide an opportunity to hear the stories of Ann Atwater, a Durham activist, author, and 2010 Sammy Award Winner; and W.C. Turner, Jr., pastor of Mt. Level Baptist Church, associate professor of the practice of homiletics at Duke University Divinity School and winner of the 2012 Sammy Award.
