Youth Director
Gathering Church

Reports to: Lead Pastor or Designee

Ministry Purpose:  To develop and implement a middle school and high school ministry whose values are consistent with the mission statement of the Gathering Church (Present to God, Connected to one another, Engaged in loving the world).  

Qualifications and Position Requirements:
-    Exhibits a personal and growing relationship with God, and a teachable spirit
-    Capable of creating and executing a long-term vision for Gathering’s youth             ministry
-    Gifted and is called to youth ministry, loves young people, and has a passion for     evangelism, and discipleship
-    Engaging teacher, with a strong biblical background, who is in agreement with the         Gathering’s Statement of Faith
-    Self-motivated leader, capable of casting and imparting vision for ministry, possessing     relational skills with students, parents, and staff
-    Willing and able to committed to 10-15 hours/ week
-    Willing and able to consider a 2 year commitment to the Gathering Church

Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities:

•    Invest in meaningful relationships with youth
•    Teach and/or coordinate the teaching of youth Sunday School every Sunday
•    Be a consistent figure who new youth can be referred to on a Sunday morning
•    Coordinate weekly Sunday night connection times for youth (ie. 1st and 3rd Sundays - high     school, 2nd and 4th Sundays - middle school; Week 1 - High school Food and Topical     Discussion, Week 2- Middle School food and topical discussion, Week 3 - High School     Social Night (Bowling, Scavenger Hunt, Defy Gravity, Durham Bulls game, Coffee chat…), Week 4 - Middle School Social Night.  (As an example only)
•    Plan and attend a relationship building summer trip (A church camp, Camping, or Beach…)
•    Coordinate quarterly service opportunities (could be carried out on a Sunday morning or night) Example: Serving a meal at Reality Ministries, Helping out with Porch, Landscaping of Creekside Elementary
•    Recruit, train and shepherd volunteers with diverse gifts and personalities


•    Coordinate an overall middle school Sunday School curriculum plan that teaches Biblical Truth while building trusting relationships with the students
•    Keep parents updated on ministry strategies and plans in a way that encourages partnership and involvement
•    Seek to integrate youth ministry into all phases of church life to create a culture that is intentionally inter-generational, striving to unite with and complement other church ministries
•    Provide leadership and direction to the youth ministry families (youth, parents of youth) and coordinate direction for volunteers to do likewise
•    Coordinate and implement an annual youth ministry budget proposal for the church leadership team to review and approve

Relational Ministry:

•    Availability for shepherding one on one (Sharing the gospel, Following up on life/ heart issues.)
•    Maintain contact with students and parents, keeping them informed of ongoing activities


•      Grow Gathering Church youth ministry in meaningful ways
•      Engage with mentor so he/she may provide encouragement, direction, support, and challenge    you toward spiritual growth
•      Attend worship services and special meetings
•      Present semi-annual ministry updates to the Leadership Team
•      Present a yearly youth budget proposal
