The Director of Children’s Ministry will foster the Christian formation of the children of TAPC by overseeing and setting the tone for a joyful, faithful ministry, equipping lay leaders for service, supporting parents in their family discipleship, and propelling the engagement of children in the life of the church. The children’s ministry director will report to and be supervised by the senior pastor. Trinity Avenue is a congregation of about five hundred members in Durham, North Carolina, with an average worship attendance of 200 across two Sunday services. TAPC strives to be a community of faith that is a catalyst for turning the hearts of the people of Durham toward one another and God through worship and ministries that connect and deepen to foster transformation by the renewing of minds in Christ Jesus. In line with our practice of baptizing infants, we believe children are integral to this life and mission, not just for the church’s future but for the church’s present. Based on prayer, conversation, and discernment, the church is seeking a director who is energetic, listens well, and embodies an active, deep faith. He or she will be leading a ministry that is focusing more and more on providing faith-formation opportunities for families. Lay leaders are interested in thinking creatively about this ministry and desire a director who works well with others. An aptitude for making connections between the children’s ministry and other aspects of the church’s life is essential. Many people find in this congregation a people who give their heart away easily, embracing newcomers warmly and happily receiving their gifts. We believe the next Director of Children’s Ministry will find a loving, supportive congregation eager to work and grow with them.
