Job Title: Associate/Youth Pastor (full-time)

MISSION STATEMENT
To follow Jesus in such a way that lives become fearless in their love for God and people.

Our church: Established in 2002, Vine of the Mountains is in Waynesville, North Carolina, a small town (approx. 10,000 within city limits) located 25 miles west of Asheville in the Great Smoky Mountains. Also known as “The Vine,” we are an interdenominational church founded on classical Christian theology from the Wesleyan-Anglican tradition, but with a focus on forming Christian community among believers with a variety of backgrounds. Attendance for 2016 is currently averaging 135-145 per Sunday. Our worship style is aptly described as contemporary with a semi-liturgical character. Our vision is a church community of disciples who courageously and compassionately express the saving love of Jesus to everyone they meet - without compromising biblical orthodoxy.

GENERAL POSITION SUMMARY

Responsible for working with and supporting the senior pastor and coordinating youth activities in order to promote and sustain the mission of the church.
Essential Job Functions
 Responsible for all youth (grades 7-12) activities and delegates appropriately when necessary.
 Maintains regular contact with parents of the youth to ensure dissemination of information and garner support
of youth activities.
 Develops and leads a consistent team of adult counselors who support and nurture youth.
 Engages with students where possible to cultivate relationships with church and community youth.
 Plans and leads weekly youth fellowship meetings and assists with weekly worship planning.
 Plans, studies, and delivers messages to facilitate meaningful worship several times a quarter.
 Assumes the duties of the senior pastor in the event of his absence.
 Provides competent, compassionate, and ethically sound pastoral care by contacting members who are
physically, spiritually, or emotionally unwell and visiting upon request.
 Stays abreast of current local, national, and international events that affect congregation and Christian
principals.
 Demonstrates fiscal responsibility by appropriate use of church funds appropriated by the board of elders.
 Participates in educational opportunities supported by the church and self-development activities to promote
professional development.
 Completes special projects as required.
Other Job Functions
 Demonstrates familiarity with and upholds formal and material theological principals for the interpretation of scripture.
 Uses independent judgment and decision-making to organize work and establish priorities.
 Assists with public information outreach and awareness to promote church events.

QUALIFICATIONS

The following qualifications are the minimum requirements necessary to adequately perform this job. However, an equivalent combination of experience, education and training which provides the necessary knowledge skills and abilities would be acceptable, subject to the discretion of the church’s leadership.
Required: Spiritual:
 Compelling witness of love for Christ and His Church.
 Vibrant and growing faith.
 Ongoing commitment to honor Christ in private and public life.
 Maintains healthy and loving spousal and family relationships.
 Creativity in crafting sermons, reaching and teaching youth, and planning youth events.
 Appreciation for semi-liturgical, convergent worship.
 Demonstrates spiritual maturity and integrity by submitting to the authority and experience of the senior
pastor.
Physical:
 Ability to lead and participate in outdoor/wilderness activities.
 Stamina to remain awake and active for extended hours with energetic youth.
 Speech and hearing skills necessary for telephone interaction and face-to-face contact.
Preferred: Educational:
 Masters of Divinity. Computer skills:
 Mac hardware and software.
 Microsoft Word, Excel, Publisher, Power Point.
 Google Docs.

WORKING ENVIRONMENT
 There is no designated office space available for any staff at this time.
 Meets weekly with senior pastor and staff.
 Major youth trips (mission and/or backpacking) may each require a week +/- of out-of-town travel, along with
two or three weekend special events throughout the year.
 Required to travel in various types of weather/road conditions.
 Maintains a reliable vehicle and driver's license for transportation to accomplish work.

REPORTING RELATIONSHIPS
 Reports to the Senior Pastor* and Vine of the Mountains’ Board of Elders.
 Coordinates volunteers working with youth.
*Our senior pastor is also the founding pastor of the church. He served for 22 years in youth ministry and was an ordained minister in the United Methodist Church before working with others to begin Vine of the Mountains 14 years ago. He recognizes, affirms, and actively supports the need to recruit and develop ministerial talent for our church's present and future needs.
