Throughout February, Duke Divinity School will feature the Sankofa Black Alumni Preaching Series to celebrate the distinct contributions of the school’s alumni of African descent. Alumni will preach during three Tuesday worship services in Goodson Chapel at 11:25 a.m.
Conversations with Black Seminarians Union students will be held at the Divinity School after each sermon. Lunch will be provided.
Preachers for this year's series are: the Rev. Latonya L. Agard, D '08, pastor at Bazzel Creek Missionary Baptist Church in Fuquay-Varina, N.C.; the Rev. Herbert R. Davis, D '97, senior pastor of Nehemiah Christian Center in Durham, N.C.; and the Rev. Gloria Aghogah, D '98, pastor of Bethlehem United Holy Church, also in Durham.
The Sankofa Black Alumni Preaching Series was established in 2014 during Black History Month. The word "sankofa" derives from the Akan language of Ghana and translates as "reach back and get it."
