Rev. Sally G. Bates
Divinity School Chaplain
Sally joined the Divinity School as chaplain in 2002. She has special interest in how the arts — drama, music, and visual art — serve as the “through which” we encounter the God we so deeply hunger for. Sally is an ordained elder in the North Carolina Conference of the United Methodist Church. She was formerly associate pastor at Hayes Barton United Methodist Church in Raleigh. Chaplain Bates has a deep commitment to mission work in Haiti, and each year over spring break leads a retreat to Haiti, “The Spirituality of Mother Teresa.”
Donna Banks
Director of Student Life
An alumna of the Divinity School, Donna was appointed Director of Student Life in 2011 and hopes to help students gain the most out of their Duke Divinity School experience. Donna is an ordained elder in the United Methodist. Prior to joining the Divinity School, she served as senior pastor at Evergreen United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill, N.C. and served before that as associate pastor of Christ United Methodist Church in Chapel Hill. Before hearing her call to ministry, Donna worked as a research chemist and in corporate sales, marketing and management.
