The Rt. Rev. Neil Lebhar, bishop of the Gulf Atlantic Diocese, will be the celebrant.

Duke Divinity School and the Office of Black Church Studies will hold a 2013 Martin Luther King Jr. Lecture Series worship service with preaching by James A. Forbes Jr., senior minister emeritus of Riverside Church and president of the Healing of the Nations Foundation, both in New York City. The Gospel Choir will sing.

Service of Word and Foot-Washing Ritual led by Baptist House of Studies

Service of Word and Music Celebrating the Life and Work of J.S. Bach

Duke Divinity School will hold a public worship service celebrating the life and work of Johann Sebastian Bach on the occasion of his 328th birthday. David Arcus, Divinity School and Duke Chapel organist and adjunct associate professor of sacred music, will preach.

The Divinity Choir, as well as faculty and student musicians, will provide music.

Bilingual Service of Word and Table led by "Caminates" of Hispanic House of Studies

Duke Divinity School will offer a bilingual worship service led by the "Caminates" program of the Hispanic House of Studies. Ismael Ruiz-Millan, director of the Hispanic House, will preach, and the Praise Team will sing. 

Students serving international field education placements during summer 2013 will be commissioned at this public worship service.

The "Caminates" (Walkers) group meets every week for spiritual formation from a Hispanic Methodist perspective.

Service of Word and Table with the Rev. Fleming Rutledge Preaching

Duke Divinity School will hold a worship service of Word and Table commemorating the Feast Day of John and Charles Wesley with the Rev. Fleming Rutledge preaching. Richard Hays, Dean of the Divinity School and George Washington Ivey Professor of New Testament, will be the celebrant. The Divinity Choir will sing.

The Rev. Rutledge is an internationally-respected preacher and teacher who spent 22 years in parish ministry. One of the first women to be ordained in the Episcopal Church, she has authored several books including And God Spoke to Abraham: Preaching from the Old Testament (Eerdmans, 2011).   

All Divinity School worship services are open to the public.
