Women's Week Mission Project

The Divinity Women's Center will hold a mission project collecting gently used clothing to donate to local women's shelters as part of Women's Week on Feb. 10-14. This year Women's Week celebrates the 40th anniversary of the center.

Boxes to put clothing donations in will be located in the Women's Center and in the Student Lounge until the end of the day Feb. 14.

The Divinity Women's Center and the Office of Community Life at Duke Divinity School will hold a community supper in celebration of the work being done by female students, staff, and faculty at the school.

The free dinner is part of Women's Week on Feb. 10-14. This year the week also celebrates the 40th anniversary of the women's center.

The Divinity Women's Center will sponsor the 2014 Jill Raitt Lecture featuring Serene Jones, president of Union Theological Seminary in New York City. Lunch will be provided.

The lecture is open to all students, faculty, and staff. It is sponsored annually by the women's center in honor of Jill Raitt, the first tenured female faculty member at Duke Divinity School.

The Divinity Women's Center will hold a panel discussion on women in the church and academy in various ministerial capacities featuring several deans from Duke Divinity School. Panelists will be Laceye Warner, executive vice dean, Sujin Pak, associate dean for academic programs, and Susan P. Jones, associate dean for United Methodist initiatives and ministerial formation.

The event is part of Women's Week on Feb. 10-14. This year Women's Week celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Divinity Women's Center.

Lunch will be provided.

Women's Week Celebration Offers Prayer Stations

The Divinity Women's Center will sponsor prayer stations in the student lounge in collaboration with the New Creation Arts student group as part of Women's Week on Feb. 10-14. This year Women's Week celebrates the 40th anniversary of the center.

Duke Divinity School students, faculty, and staff are invited to visit the lounge throughout the day for prayer and spiritual reflection.

The Duke Divinity School Women's Center will hold a lunch discussion on "Don't Be that Dude: Reflections on the Academy, Church, and Masculinity" by Amy Laura Hall, associate professor of Christian ethics at the school, as part of Women's Week  on Feb. 10-14. This year Women's Week celebrates the 40th anniversary of the Divinity Women's Center.

Lunch will be provided at the discussion, which is open to students, faculty, and staff.

The Divinity Women's Center at Duke Divinity School will celebrate its 40th anniversary with numerous events open to students, faculty, and staff during Women's Week on Feb. 10-14.

Events during the week will include the 2014 Jill Raitt Lecture and luncheon featuring Serene Jones, president of Union Theological Seminary in New York City.


The schedule of events includes:

•Prayer Stations, Feb. 10 - 14, beginning at 9 a.m., created by New Creation Arts student group, Divinity Student Lounge.

•Mission Project, Feb. 10-14, 9 a.m. - 5 p.m., a mission project collecting gently used clothing to donate to local women's shelters. Donation boxes are located in the Divinity Women's Center and in the Student Lounge.

•"Don't Be that Dude: Reflections on the Academy, Church, and Masculinity"  lunch discussion with Divinity School Professor Amy Laura Hall, Feb. 11, 12:30 p.m., 0012 Westbrook Building.

•Worship Service Celebrating Women's Week with Divinity School Professor Eboni Marshall Turman preaching, Feb. 13, 11:25 a.m. - 12:15 p.m. Goodson Chapel.

•Jill Raitt Lecture with Union Theological Seminary President Serene Jones, Feb. 13, 12:30 p.m., 0016 Westbrook.

•Women's Week Community Supper, Feb. 13, 5:30 p.m., Alumni Memorial Common Room.

Veterans' Organic Garden Brown-Bag Lunch

The Milites Christi student group, the Duke Center for Reconciliation, the Divinity Women's Center, and the Office of Black Church Studies will hold a brown-bag lunch for Duke Divinity School students to learn more about the Veterans Employment Base Camp and Organic Garden.

The guest speaker will be Lovay Wallace-Singleton, executive director of the North Carolina based, non-profit organization dedicated to creating ways to assist disabled, disadvantaged, and homeless veterans acquire employment, agricultural skills, and veteran information. He is also a 20-year U.S. Navy veteran.

The Duke Divinity School Admissions, Field Education, and Community and Student Life offices will hold a Student Pastor Day for students interested in serving as student pastors. The students will have an opportunity to learn more about the program, find out about local church ministry opportunities, and to interview with area United Methodist district superintendents under whom they might possibly serve.

To register, students should send an email with their name, contact information, and year studying at the Divinity School by Feb. 17. They should also type  in “Student Pastor Day Registration” in the subject line of the email.
