"Militis Christi," a student group at Duke Divinity School, will hold a meeting to discuss matters related to those who have served or are currently serving in the military and their families. The goal of this weekly forum is to help future pastors better understand the needs of these members of the church community.

“Manos Unidas,” a student group affiliated with the Hispanic House of Studies at Duke Divinity School, will hold a meeting. All Divinity students are invited to attend to learn more about the group, which seeks to nurture the body of Christ with a particular care for the Latina/Latino community.

The group's mission is to facilitate opportunities for ministry, provide fellowship and service, and respond to issues affecting Latinas/Latinos in the United States and abroad.

"For Such is the Kingdom of Heaven: Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Bombing of 16th Street Baptist Church"

The Black Seminarians Union at Duke Divinity School will host a time of reflection on the events surrounding the bombing of Sixteenth Street Baptist Church in Birmingham, Ala., on Sept. 15, 1963.

The public event, "For Such is the Kingdom of Heaven: Commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Bombing of 16th Street Baptist Church," will feature remarks by Divinity School professors J. Kameron Carter and Eboni Marshall Turman, and Maurice Wallace, sssociate professor of English and African and African American Studies at Duke University. Marshall Turman is also the director of the Office of Black Church Studies at the school.

The bombing, which killed four African American girls, served as a catalyst for the civil rights movement.

Broadway Revue Auditions Being Scheduled

Auditions are being scheduled for the 7th annual Duke Divinity School Broadway Revue fund-raiser, which will feature performances of music and dance selections from popular Broadway musicals by students, faculty, and staff. Signup sheets for auditions are located in the Student Lounge on the O Level of Gray Building.

The fund-raiser for a local service organization will be held March 21 at 7:30 pm in Reynolds Theatre in the Bryan Center at Duke University.

"Christianity in Japan: How the Word of God Shaped and Formed Christians in Japan" with Katsuki Hirano

The Asian Theology Student Group at Duke Divinity School will host a public talk by Katsuki Hirano, senior pastor of Daita Church, a Presbyterian congregation in Tokyo, on "Christianity in Japan: How the Word of God Shaped and Formed Christians in Japan."

Hirano is also chair of The School of Preachers, an organization that provides continuing education in homiletics to pastors throughout Japan, and the executive editor of "Ministry," a magazine for pastors in Japan.

Lunch will be served.

Divinity Women's Center Brown-Bag Lunch on its 40th Anniversary with Jeanette Stokes and Professor Mary Fulkerson

The Divinity Women's Center will sponsor a brown-bag discussion led by Jeanette Stokes and Mary Fulkerson, professor of theology at Duke Divinity School, about the center's founding 40 years ago and its presence at the school.

Fulkerson is also the director of the Program in Gender, Theology, and Ministry, and faculty sponsor of the Women's Center. A Divinity School graduate, Stokes is a former director of the Women's Center and founder of  the Resource Center for Women and Ministry in the South.

Mentoring and Networking Clergy Luncheon

The Reformed Students Association at Duke Divinity School will host a luncheon for Reformed/Presbyterian/United Church of Christ students at the school and area clergy to network and build support networks within the area for students. Lunch will be served.

Basin & Towel Kickoff Event

Basin and Towel, a Duke Divinity School student group, will hold a kickoff event for the 2013-2014 academic year. All students are invited to participate. Worship and communion will be held from 8:30 to 9:30 a.m. in Goodson Chapel, followed by small groups traveling to selected worksites in Durham.

Lunch will be provided. Registration is required.

Militis Christi, a student organization at Duke Divinity School, meets each Wednesday for a time of reflection and sharing by military veterans and others interested in veterans' issues and concerns. The meeting is held at the same time and location each Wednesday.
