In Haiti, a Focus on Friendship

During a spring break student retreat, sharing simple acts of friendship breaks the language barrier.

Kite flying in Haiti; photo by Pamela McKenneyInspired by the spirituality of Mother Teresa, the Divinity School’s spring break retreat in Haiti was devoted to praying, breaking bread, and visiting orphanages and hospitals. But there was also time for simple fun, including making and flying kites.

Reception for Spring Juried Art Exhibit

New Creation Arts Group will host a reception for the 3rd annual Duke Divinity School Spring Juried Art Exhibit, which is on display in the Cokesbury Bookstore hallway and student lounge in the O level of Gray Building. The reception will feature live music, poetry readings, and refreshments.

The exhibit’s theme, “Places of Redemption,” is based on Professor Mary McClintock Fulkerson’s book, “Places of Redemption: Theology for a Worldly Church.” Exhibit sponsors include the New Creation Arts Group, the Office of Student Life and Formation, Duke Initiatives in Theology and the Arts, Center for Reconciliation, Office of Academic Formation and Programs, the Stuart Henry Arts Committee, Divinity School chaplain Sally Bates, and the Divinity Student Council.

RESCHEDULED Divinity School Second Annual Field Day

The Second Annual Duke Divinity School Field Day has been rescheduled to April 28 from 5 to 6:30 p.m. The location will be announced later. The free event for students, faculty, and staff will feature activities including a dunking booth, sumo wrestling suits, tie-dye shirts, dodgeball, and an inflatable  “bouncing castle.” Family and friends are also invited to the event, coordinated by the Divinity Student Council. There will be free pizza.

Duke Divinity Dialogue and Dessert with the Dean

The Divinity Student Council will hold a dialogue and dessert with Divinity School Dean Richard Hays. The dean will speak about the state of the Divinity School and administrative goals affecting the student body. Dessert and beverages will be provided.

Divinity School Closing Convocation

Charles Campbell, professor of Homiletics at Duke Divinity School, will preach at the school's 85th Closing Convocation worship service. Dean Richard B. Hays will be the celebrant at the Service of the Word and Table that marks the end of the academic year and honors graduating seniors.
