Duke Chapel Choral Vespers Service Celebrates Black History Month and 50th Commemoration of Integration
In celebration of Black History Month and the commemoration of 50 years of black students at Duke, the choral vespers service at Duke Chapel will feature African-American spirituals as well as musical arrangements and texts by prominent black musicians and poets.
The Duke Vespers Ensemble and chapel organist David Arcus will provide music at this prayerful and contemplative service that is open to the public.
The music for the service will include: choral introit, "I Want Jesus to Walk With Me" (arr. Brian Schmidt); anthem, "Abide With Me" (arr. Moses Hogan); anthem, "Feet o' Jesus" (music by William Averitt, poetry by Langston Hughes); and choral benediction, "Hear My Prayer" (Moses Hogan).
