"The Spiritual, the Secular and the Poor in India and China" Lecture with Peter van der Veer, Director of the Max Planck Institute
Peter van der Veer, director of the Max Planck Institute of Religious and Ethnic Diversity at Göttingen, Germany, will speak on "The Spiritual, the Secular and the Poor in India and China" as the fifth speaker in the Religions and Public Life speaker series sponsored by the Religions and Public Life Initiative at Duke University.
The six-part series features leaders who bridge the academic and faith communities. They will address the intersection of religion and social issues at local and global worth.
Veer's work focuses on religion and nationalism in Asia and Europe. He is the co-editor of Patterns of Middle Class Consumption in India and China (Sage Publications, 2008) and the author of Imperial Encounters: Religion and Modernity in India and Britain (Princeton University Press, 2001).
